Quote#1: Pg 170 last paragraph “When the war came and he was drafted and sent to Seattle it was the end of the marriage.” This was not the main character this was a girl (Mike) that came up to him and talk to him.

This shows that time back then was hard for not only the main character but for everyone. Time was very hard through war people got paid little and no money was mad because everyone got drafted to the army so no guys can work.

I feel bad for this girl because I would hate to live life with out my dad because it helps knowing that you have one and someone looking out for you. I think she has dealt with a lot of hard things in life as well.

Question#1: do you think the main character will get with Mike?

Quote#2: pg 161 1st paragraphs. “I was going to but my mother said if I ever turned Jewish she’d throw her herself off the gorge Washington bridge and between you and me I didn’t give a shit if she jumped and bounced off a passing tugboat.

This shows that how much Jews were hated back then. They didn’t even have a reason to hate them they hated them because they can breath. His mother didn’t want to him to turn into a Jew.
I wonder why did they hate them did people back then just need someone to pick on or something. And still to this day people still have something against Jews. I hope we can get over our hatred to religions and under stand that we all have our own beliefs and life styles.

Question #2: Why do you think everyone hated Jews.

Response to Quote #1: I agree with you about feeling sorry for the girl because I would too. Although there are so many people who we may or may not know, who is fatherless and that is sad to me. I bet she felt like a chunck or a missing piece of her was gone.

I think that Frank and Mike are good for each other, yet now he is married to his wife Ellen so I don't think that if they got together, that it lasted. It couldn't have, right?

Response to Quote #2: This quote made me laugh. It showed a very humorious side of Frank.

I don't think that it's that everyone hated Jews. i think that in our society today, when someone, anyone clairfys Jews, then suddenly we think Jews are the bad guys when they are just like normal everyday people. Although I don't understand why we would do that. I think it is just super natural now. I don't know for sure though. Good question.

Quote #1: People did get through the war very hard. It was also the Great Depression at the time. That is the kind of situation we are in since were in a recession.

Question #1: I'm not sure is Frank will get together with Mike. I they both like each other than I can see a relationship in the future.

Quote #2: Jews are the number one race that has been hated thought the entire history of the world. It's probably because in ancient times Jews won almost all the major wars against Israel (like Babylon, Syria, and Persia)and they were very prosperous, and believed in one god (all the countries/kingdoms nearby believed in many gods). Many countries hated them with jealousy.

Question #2: I just answered is question in the paragraph above.

Quote #1: The quote is true because he is going to be half way around the world and for a long time and so he wont beable to see mike. But I feel bad that he had to be drafted because now they cant see each other.

Question#1: I think later on the book the main character will get Mike.

Quote #2: Wow man I agreee with you that back then Jewish people were not liked a lot and it showed that the main character did not care about what happened to his mother.

Question #2: Yah I agree with Jonah that Jewish people have a history of people hating them because they conquered a lot and so thats probubly why and because how their religion is different a little bit.
