Immigration Project Reflection

I was happy with my LC book ‘Tis this book helps me learn a lot. It was a good book about a guy who doesn’t have a good life in his country and wants to move to the states so he can make money and get a job. I also liked this book because the person in the book was a very interesting person, he lived a very hard and strange life.

I learned many things from this book on how hard life really is and how much harder it is to come to America and start a life here. People had to start off with nothing and just start a life in a new country. I also notice that a lot of the people I know wouldn’t be able to handle what he went through. I am not sure if I would be able to handle what he had to struggle with but I would never really be able to tell. I think it would be even harder in today’s society to live on your own, compared to what the kids I interviewed had to deal with. I am not saying it was easy for them it was still very hard for immigrants to survive in this country and it was hard to keep going when you have to deal with that much stress.

My group was able to look back on the book and make sure everyone is up to date on the book and everyone understands what is going on in this book. I think that would help because I found out when I was confused on a part, there was a high chance someone else in my group was confused with that part also. I would ask someone to clarify that part for me and at least one person in the group would want to know more about that part to help them understand as well.

I liked how we used blogs instead of writing them because I feel it is a lot easier to type pages then it is to write them. Sure may need more writing to type and it doesn’t look as much as if you where to write it, but it looks neater that if I where to have crumpled pages. I also like the fact that the computer has spell check because I am not good at noticing my own errors in my writing.

Some thing that I had a problem with in my blog where that when my computer crashes there is no way for me to do my work at home because it is all on computers. But besides that fact I like using the computer because it is neat and easy. And I also like how you can always go look at some one else’s blog if you don’t understand a part and you cant contact the person you can go on their blog and see if there is anything that can help you understand better.

For my art piece I chose to make a summarization of the book onto an art piece. I tried to put what happened in the whole book into one picture that I drew I put his memory of his dad leaving and I showed it took a while to get to the states and then what was waiting for him once he got here. I tried to show his emotions at first but I decided not to in the end because I wasn’t the best drawer.

I feel their was a big connection with my painting to the book since I tried to include main points of the book inside my painting or the main idea of the book. My painting showed a memory of his past that included his father leaving him. I also showed his house and how it wasn’t that nice compared to New York. I also put a sign showing with way leaves to what life style that he was going to life like home he would have a poor family and a bad house with very little work and money. Or he could go to America and get a job and start a new life their and try to become successful.

I think my painting looked nice I turned out better then I thought a first I had my droughts with the picture but in the end it looked good. I feel I didn’t mess up on the painting portion much because other wise it would look a lot worse then it did. Painting turned out to be harder than I thought I came out better then I thought, but I thought it would be a lot easier to paint but it turns out painting is harder than people think. I am not the best artist but I am still proud of my work.

I think if I did a book cover it would of looked better because I wouldn’t have to try to put in small details about evens that happened. I had an idea but due to everyone doing book covers I was asked to choose another thing to make for my painting. I think if I put more time into it will look better but that’s because everything would look better if you put more time into the picture.

I think this was a good idea because this was a fun component to this project. I like drawing in my free time even though I may not be the best at painting, but I still like to make art when I get the chance. I had fun drawing the picture and I learned even more about the after this part due to needing to go back and finding the important parts to put in I remembers another small details that I tried to include in my art piece.

For the interview of this project I had to go to a school that had a few immigrant students and we were asked to interview them. This was kind of difficult due to my immigrants’ only being in this country for a year or so, this means that they didn’t speak good English and didn’t know all the word I knew. So some question I asked them they weren’t able to answer them due to not knowing what I said. I also had to interview to people because I was assigned them and we had one person less than they did so I had a extra person to talk to and interview. They seem very shy and they didn’t seem like they knew how to talk English that well, but when they did talk they wouldn’t say much so it was really difficult to find out the answers to my questions that I asked.

Since I was apart of the going to the immigrants’ school program I was only required to interview two people twice but I think it would have been a new experience to interview people all those ways. Yes I have done that before but I have never interview a immigrant and talking about how they got here and what it was like just to come here and start a new life here in America.

I learned a lot from my immigrants like how Thailand is manly a ghetto and there is a lot of gang violence in most parts of Thailand. I also learned that there are more than one language that they speak their there are like three main languages that the people their speak. One of them in Lau and that is what Tar Nee Nee and Mie speak. Their culture is a lot different to use as well also that their religions are every different. Some religions wear certain things for each day because some religion their wear certain colors on days.

Reading a person life is different then actually meeting the person and talking to people form out of this country. The book help understand how hard it must be but when you talk to the person you really get their opinion on how different their culture is compared to ours. The charter in the book lived a life in America and he is done with his journey. But the person that I went to talk to is only like 17 so he still has to live his life here and find out what it is like to live here. The people that I interviewed where manly here for about a year so far to they have a lot to learn and a lot to find out about America.

I am not sure what they will feel when they get my gift they don’t seem like they liked me that much but I hope they at least thank me for feel thankful that someone was interested about heir life and how different our life styles are. I put music on their that they said they liked so I hope they will end up listing to the CD I made or at least listen to the song that I put on their that relate to their lives and song that I put on their that they might like.
